Valkenburg, NED (October 19, 2014) – Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Trek Cyclocross Collective) dominated the elite women's field and rode onto the top step of the podium at the 2014-2015 UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup opener on Sunday.

Compton had a chaotic start that saw her drop out of the top 10 when she needed a bike change, but despite her tough luck the American strongwoman was able to ride smooth and work her way back up through the field. At the end of the 45-minute contest, Compton soloed across the finish line for the win 15 seconds ahead of silver medalist Helen Wyman (GBR) and 25 seconds ahead of bronze medalist Sophie De Boer (NED).

Fellow American Elle Anderson (San Francisco, Calif./Kalas-NNOF Cycling Team) had an outstanding race to finish in fifth while Arley Kemmerer (Palmerton, Pa./PB2 Pro Cycling) was just outside the top 10 in 11th.

American Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass./Rapha Focus) also had an impressive finish in the opening round, riding to ninth place in the elite men's race. Lars Van der Haar (NED) took the top prize while Kevin Pauwels (BEL) and Corne Van Kessel (NED) were second and third. American Jonathan Page (Northfield, NH/Fuji-Spyoptics) was 41st.

In the U23 ranks, Yannick Eckmann (Boulder, Colo./California Giant Cycling) was the top American in 21st. He finished ahead of compatriots Tobin Ortenblad (Santa Cruz, Calif./California Giant Cycling) in 25th and Curtis White (Delanson, NY/Cyclocrossworld-Cannondale Cyclocross) in 31st. The race was won by Michael Vanthourenhout (BEL).

Gavin Haley (Louisville, Ky./Red Zone Cycling) was the top rider for the U.S. in the junior men's race in 12th while Lance Haidet (Bend, Ore./Bear Development Team) was 20th and Jordan Lewis (Gray, Tenn./Cycle-Smart, Inc.) was 44th. The race was won by Eli Iserbyt (BEL).
