Pro GRT: Aiello, Zimmer close strong for Pro GRT titles

  
  


(Sept. 23, 2014) – Alison Zimmer (Lincoln, Vt./VT Gravity Racing-Xprezo) and Kevin Aiello (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./KHS Factory Racing) used respective second-place finishes at the Sept. 20 Kamikaze Bike Games in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., to clinch the men’s and women’s 2014 USA Cycling Pro Gravity Tour (Pro GRT) championships.

Zimmer crossed second at the Kamikaze Bike Games in 5:29.39, 15.04 seconds behind winner Becky Gardner (Marlboro, N.Y.), to take the women’s title with 200 points, finishing ahead of Rae Gandolf (Zanesville, Ohio/Team Kona Bikes-Kenda-HWB Cycling) in the women’s Pro GRT standings. Gandolf held her second-place standing with 167 points on the heels of a bronze medal performance at the event. Lauren Daney (Stafford, Va.) maintained third with 100 points, followed by Elinor Wesner (Cresskill, N.J./Giant-Shimano-Tenafly) with 95. Amanda Batty (Park City, Utah/The Joint Chiropractic-Gnarly Nutrition-Discrete) rounded out the women’s top five with 65 points.
 
Like Zimmer, Aiello took silver in 4:09.89 at the Kamikaze Games, 2.06 seconds behind winner Marco Osborne (Novato, Calif.), which cemented the men’s 2014 Pro GRT championship with 193 points. Neko Mulally (Pisgah, N.C./Trek World Racing) finished second in the standings with 130 points, while Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif./Specialized Racing) stood third with 120. Max Morgan (Duluth, Ga./Billy Goat Bikes-Mountain Khakis) and Logan Binggeli (Saint George, Utah/KHS Factory Racing) took fourth and fifth with 110 and 90 points, respectively.
