Pro GRT: New leaders, tight standings after Snowshoe Wild Hare

(July 18, 2014) -- New leaders rose to the top of the standings after the 2014 USA Cycling Pro Gravity Tour (Pro GRT) made its fourth stop of the season at the Snowshoe Wild Hare in Snowshoe, W.Va., on July 12-13. With two events remaining on the tour, both the men's and women's standings continue to be tight, placing increased importance on the final races.
 
Lauren Daney (Stafford, Va.) blitzed the downhill course at Snowshoe to not only move into the top five of the women's Pro GRT standings, but into a tie at the top. Daney's convincing victory by more than 16 seconds puts her atop the standings with Alison Zimmer (Lincoln, Vt./VT Gravity Racing-Xprezo) who finished third at Snowshoe and jumped up from second place in the standings. Daney and Zimmer both have 100 points for the year. Previous standings leader, Rae Gandolf (Zanesville, Ohio/Team Kona Bikes-Kenda-HWB Cycling), finished fourth at Snowshoe and fell to third place in the standings, but remains close to the top with 97 points. Elinor Wesner (Cresskill, N.J./Giant-Shimano-Tenafly) moves up one spot to fourth place with 65 points, thanks to her fifth-place showing last weekend. Kristen Courtney (CAN/Adrenaline Racer-To Wheels) and Miranda Miller (CAN) were absent at Snowshoe and fall from third to fifth in the women's standings. Both riders have 60 points.

On the men's side, Neko Mulally (Pisgah, N.C./Trek World Racing) takes over the top spot in the Pro GRT standings from Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif./Specialized Racing) by virtue of his win at Snowshoe. Mulally's 130 points gives him a 10-point lead on Gwin, who did not race at Snowshoe. Kevin Aiello (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./KHS Factory Racing) is close behind in third place with 113 points, followed by Logan Binggeli (Saint George, Utah) with 82 points and Max Morgan (Duluth, Ga.) with 50. Morgan and Binggeli were second and third, respectively, at Snowshoe last weekend.
