NTC: New sprint leaders surface at Fastest Man on Wheels

  
  


(June 17, 2015) – Edward Dawkins (NZL), Monique Sullivan (CAN) and Elis Ligtlee (NED) took over the men’s and women’s USA Cycling National Track Calendar (NTC) sprint standings after the June 12 Fastest Man on Wheels in Trexlertown, Pa.
 
SPRINT

Dawkins jumped to the men’s sprint lead with 21 points following his Fastest Man on Wheels keirin win, overtaking former leader Matthew Archibald’s (NZL) second-place 15 points. Jeffrey Hoogland (NED) moved from fourth to third with 14 points thanks to a fifth-place effort on June 12, and Matthew Rotherham (GBR) made his first top five appearance with a fourth best 12 points following his Fastest Man on Wheels silver medal. Jair Tjon En Fa (SUR) held on to stay in the top five with 12 points despite dropping from second to fifth after not recording any points at the event.
 
Sullivan and Ligtlee share a first-place tie with 25 points after they finished first and third in the women’s keirin, respectively. Top five newcomer Danielle Kahn (GBR) used a second-place finish to move into third with 17 points, edging out fourth- and fifth-place women Kate O’Brien (CAN) and Shanne Braspennencx (NED), who each have 16 points.
 
ENDURANCE
 
Patrick Jones (NZL) fortified his men’s endurance lead with the Fastest Man on Wheels points race, taking his second win of the season to boost his score to 30 points. Jacob Duehring’s (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) second-place result in Trexlertown helped him from fourth to second with 20 points, and Stephen Hall (Santa Monica, Calif./Incycle-Predator Components) held third with 20 points following his third-place finish. Jeremy Presbury (NZL) and Ian Holt (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Air Force Academy) broke into the top five with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
 
American Kim Geist (Emmaus, Pa./Team Alliance Environmental) clings to first with 20 points, holding a tiebreaker over Tela Crane (Sammamish, Wash./Lake Washington Velo) based on Geist’s U.S. Sprint Grand Prix win last week. Kimberly Ann Zubris (Alburtis, Pa.) slipped from second to third with 18 points after taking fifth in the women’s points race, while Korina Huizar’s (BEL/BMW p/b Happy Tooth Dental) win propelled her to a fourth-place 15 points. Sara Ferrara (FIN) rounds out the women’s endurance top five with 13 points on the heels of her silver medal performance on Friday.

The NTC makes one more stop in Trexlertown with the June 19-20 Festival of Speed-Red Robin Finals before heading west. NTC action returns to the Pennsylvania velodrome in August for the final two calendar events of the year.
