NRC: Women’s standings tighten after Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic

  
  


(June 4, 2014) – The 2014 women’s USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) standings became much closer following the 2014 Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 1.

Mara Abbott (Boulder, Colo./UnitedHealthcare) collected 80 ranking points after finishing seventh at the Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic, bringing her standings point total to 484. Abbott’s strong showing slashed standings leader Lauren Stephens’ (Dallas, Texas/Team TIBCO-To the Top) lead to just 30 points with two races to go in the NRC. Flavia Oliveira (Livermore, Calif./FCS|Zngine p/b Mr. Restore) made things even closer by finishing fifth in Philadelphia, which earned 100 ranking points and retained her third-place ranking with 400 points. Laura Brown (CAN/Colavita-Fine Cooking) remains in fourth with 308 points following her 17th-place finish, and Joanne Kiesanowski (Colorado Springs, Colo./Team TIBCO-To the Top) cracked the women’s top five with 292 points following her ninth-place effort at the Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic.
 
TEAM
 
Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies passed Colavita-Fine Cooking for third in the women’s team standings following top-12 finishes by Optum teammates Lauren Hall (Dolores, Colo.) and Janel Holcomb (San Diego, Calif.), who finished third and 12th, respectively. Optum has 670 points, trailing standings leader Team TIBCO/To the Top, which has 1212 points, and second-place UnitedHealthcare, which has 1072. Colavita-Fine Cooking now stands fourth with 620 points. Specialized-lululemon overtook the fifth spot in the standings following Evelyn Stevens’ (San Francisco, Calif.) second straight Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic win, which helped the team to a new total of 582 points.

Next up on the NRC calendar is the North Star Grand Prix, June 11-15, in Minneapolis, Minn. The five-day event is for both men's and women’s NRC ranking points.
