NRC: Jones and Abbott win in Silver City; McCabe and Stephens keep top NRC spots

Carter Jones (Boulder, Colo./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) and Mara Abbott (Boulder, Colo./UnitedHealthcare) won the men's and women's general classification in New Mexico, but Travis McCabe (Tucson, Ariz./Team SmartStop p/b Mountain Khakis) and Lauren Stephens (Dallas, Texas/Team TIBCO -To the Top) held on to the top spots in the men's and women's NRC standings.
MEN
Jones took the men's GC by way of fifth-place in the stage 1 road race, 11th-place in the stage 2 road race, fourth-place in the stage 3 time trial, 12th-place in the stage 4 criterium, and seventh-place in the stage 5 road race. His overall win earned him 240 points and launched him into fifth-place in the NRC standings.
McCabe, who was third in the Gila's stage 2 road race, finished 29th in the GC and upped his NRC-leading point total to 500. Ryan Roth (CAN/Jet Fuel Coffee-Norco Bicycles) holds the second spot, Joseph Rosskopf (Athens, Ga./Hincapie Sportswear Development) moves from fourth into third, and Ian Crane (Seattle, Wash./Jamis Hagens Berman) now slots in at fourth.
WOMEN
Abbott was a dominant force in the women's Tour of the Gila, winning the stage 1 and stage 5 road races. She also placed third in the stage 3 time trial, ninth in the stage 2 road race, and 19th in the stage 4 criterium. After collecting the overall GC win and 270 points in New Mexico, the Colorado rider moved from fourth to second in the NRC standings while Stephens, who was second in the time trial and third in the stage 2 road race, held onto the number one spot.

TEAMS
In the men's team standings, Jamis Hagens Berman moved into first place with 1078 points, overtaking the spot from Hincapie Sportswear Development which moved to fourth place. Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies currently occupies the number-two spot with 1016 points while SmartStop Pro Cycling is third and 5-Hour Energy p/b Kenda is fifth.
On the women's side, Team TIBCO/To the Top maintained its first-place standing with 1,032 points compared to the 992 points owned by UnitedHealthcare, which moved from third into second place.
Colavita-Fine Cooking is ranked third while Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies is fourth and FCS/Zngine p/b Mr. Restore is fifth.

Next up on the NRC is the Parx Casino Philadelphia Cycling Classic on June 1, which will award NRC points to women only but is a UCI-classified 1.1 event for both men and women.
