NRC: McCabe, Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies wrap up men’s titles

  
  


(Sept. 18, 2014) – Travis McCabe (Tucson, Ariz./Team SmartStop p/b Mountain Khakis) and Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies respectively clinched the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) men’s individual and team titles at the Sept. 13 Thompson Bucks County Classic in Doylestown, Pa.

McCabe closed out the individual men’s title with a 12th-place finish at the event, topping the final standings with 672 points. Tom Zirbel (Boulder, Colo./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies), Ian Crane (Seattle, Wash./Jamis Hagens Berman) and Joseph Rosskopf (Athens, Ga./ Hincapie Sportswear Development Team) managed to hang on to their second-, third- and fourth-place standings, as Zirbel ended the year with 458 points, Crane collected 418 points and Rosskopf finished with 406 points. Jesse Anthony (Newbury Park, Calif./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) surged into the final top five with a third-place result at the Thompson Bucks County Classic, bringing his point total to 406 to tie Rosskopf for fourth.
 
Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies punctuated the 2014 campaign with two top-10 finishes at the Thompson Bucks County Classic, including Anthony’s third-place effort, which brought the team point total to 1972 on the year. Jamis Hagens Berman took second in the standings with 1752 points after Stephen Leece (San Luis Obispo, Calif./Jamis Hagens Berman) earned second at the event, while SmartStop Pro Cycling maintained third with 1596 points on the heels of Zachary Bell’s (CAN/SmartStop Pro Cycling) Thompson Bucks County Classic win. Hincapie Sportswear Development Team and Bissell Development Team finished fourth and fifth with 1138 and 558 points, respectively, after not recording any points at the event.
 
The women's individual and team NRC titles were decided in July at the Cascade Cycling Classic.
