​NCC: Leaders stand firm after Winston-Salem Classic Criterium

  
  


(June 5, 2015) – Karl Menzies (Ada, Mich./UnitedHealthcare) and UnitedHealthcare maintained their men’s USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC) standings leads, while Erica Allar (Tucson, Ariz./ Colavita-Bianchi p/b Fine Cooking) and ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI stood firm atop the women’s standings following the May 30 Winston-Salem Classic Criterium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
WOMEN’S

Allar built on her women’s individual standings lead with a sixth-place finish at the Winston-Salem Classic Criterium, jumping her point total to 378. Tina Pic (Hailey, Idaho/Pepper Palace Pro Cycling p/b the Happy Tooth) made the leap from fourth to second with 276 points following an eight-place effort at the event, and Samantha Schneider (Milwaukee, Wis./ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI) dropped from second to third with 273 points on the heels of a 13th-place finish over the weekend. Hannah Barnes (GBR/UnitedHealthcare) fell from third to fourth with 240 points, while Skylar Schneider (West Allis, Wis./ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI) retained her fifth-place standing with 193 points.
 
MEN’S
 
Menzies managed to hold the men’s individual standings lead with 288 points despite a 17th-place finish at the Winston-Salem Classic Criterium, but Brad White (Holland, Mich./UnitedHealthcare) put the pressure on with an event win, which propelled him into the top five with a second-place 261 points. Carlos Alzate (COL/UnitedHealthcare) dropped from second to third after finishing eighth at the event, while Ryan Aitcheson (Milwaukee, Wis./Astellas Cycling Team) held fourth with 228 points with a ninth-place result. Tyler Magner (Griffin, Ga./Hincapie Racing Team) dropped from third to fifth overall with 210 points.
 
TEAM
 
UnitedHealthcare used two top-10 finishes, including White’s win, to continue its domination of the men’s team standings, hoisting a 1052 point total heading into June. Astellas Cycling Team remains second with a distant 547 points, followed by Hincapie Racing Team with 514, Airgas-Safeway Cycling with 135 and  Isagenix-SeaSucker-Guttenplan Coaching with 129.
 
Things are much closer in the women’s team standings, as ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI clings to the lead with 634 points after Samantha and Skylar Schneider posted top-15 finishes, but two top-five results closed the gap for UnitedHealthcare, which stands second with 621 points. Colavita-Bianchi p/b Fine Cooking remains third with 462 points, while Team TIBCO-SVB and Pepper Palace Pro Cycling p/b the Happy Tooth again swapped spots, with the former moving into fourth with 444 points, while the latter stands fifth with 343.
