NCC: Menzies claims top men’s spot with Wilmington silver
(May 22, 2015) – Karl Menzies (Ada, Mich./UnitedHealthcare) slid into the top spot of the men’s 2015 USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC) standings after earning
silver at the May 16 Wilmington Grand Prix in Wilmington, Del.
MEN
Menzies jumped from second to first in the standings with 276 points thanks to a second-place finish at Wilmington. Carlos Alzate (COL/UnitedHealthcare) climbed two spots from fourth to second with 216 points on the heels of a seventh-place result, while Tyler Magner (Griffin, Ga./Hincapie Racing Team) dropped from first to third in the standings with 210 points after not recording any points at the Wilmington Grand Prix. Ryan Aitcheson (Milwaukee, Wis./Astellas Cycling Team) and Hilton Clarke (Los Angeles, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) stand fourth and fifth with 192 and 190 points, respectively.
WOMEN
Erica Allar (Tucson, Ariz./ Colavita-Bianchi p/b Fine Cooking) used a fifth-place result at Wilmington to fortify her women’s standings lead with 324 points, and Samantha Schneider (Milwaukee, Wis./ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI) moved from third to second with 252 points with a fourth-place finish on Saturday. Hannah Barnes (GBR/UnitedHealthcare) dropped one spot to third with 240 points after not recording any points over the weekend, while Tina Pic (Hailey, Idaho/Pepper Palace Pro Cycling p/b the Happy Tooth) made moves into the top five thanks to her Wilmington win, claiming fourth in the standings with 234 points. Skylar Schneider (West Allis, Wis./ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI) stands fifth with 177 points after taking seventh on the weekend.
TEAM
UnitedHealthcare continues
its dominance of the men’s standings with 878 points after taking the top two spots at the Wilmington Grand Prix, and Astellas Cycling Team climbed into the second spot with 477 points on the back of Stephen Hyde’s (Easthampton, Mass./Astellas Cycling Team) bronze medal performance. Hincapie Racing Team dropped from second to third with 367 points, followed by Isagenix-SeaSucker-Guttenplan Coaching in fourth with 129 points and KHS-Maxxis-JLVelo in fifth with 105 points.
In the women’s standings, the top three remained unchanged with ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI in first with 597 points, followed by UnitedHealthcare with 438 points and Colavita-Bianchi p/b Fine Cooking with 408 points. Pepper Palace Pro Cycling p/b the Happy Tooth moved into the fourth spot with 293 points, swapping places with Team TIBCO-SVB, who has 288 points after the first four races of the calendar.
