NCC: Magner, Barnes emerge as early standings leaders

  
  


(April 1, 2015) – The 17-race 2015 USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC) kicked off March 28 with the Sunny King Criterium in Anniston, Ala., where Tyler Magner (Griffin, Ga./Hincapie Racing Team) and Hannah Barnes (GBR/UnitedHealthcare) used wins to claim the early men’s and women’s standings leads, as well as put their respective teams in the men’s and women’s team top spots.
 
WOMEN’S

Barnes nipped teammate Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) for first in the women’s contest, claiming 120 points following her 1:00:04 win. Rivera stands second with 90 points after finishing with the same time. Erica Allar (Tucson, Ariz./ Colavita-Bianchi p/b Fine Cooking) picked up bronze in 1:00:05 to earn 72 points, followed by Skylar Schneider (West Allis, Wis./ ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI) and Yussely Soto (Dayton, Minn./ ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI), who finished in a group of four to take fourth and fifth in 1:00:06.

MEN’S
 
Magner crossed in 1:31:18 for the win at the Sunny King Criterium to earn 120 points and first place in the men’s standings, just edging Luke Keough (Sandwich, Mass./UnitedHealthcare), who took second with the same time to earn 90 points. Hilton Clarke (Los Angeles, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) and Ruben Companioni (Hialeah, Fla./Colavita Racing) finished in 1:31:20 to take third and fourth with 72 and 66 points, respectively, while Andrew Dahlheim (Greenville, S.C./ Isagenix-SeaSucker-Guttenplan Coaching) earned 60 points for his 3:31:21 fifth-place result.
 
TEAM
 
In the men's standings, Hincapie Racing Team jumped to an early lead thanks three top-10 finishes charged by Magner’s win, collecting 210 points after the first event. UnitedHealthcare used podium finishes by Keough and Clarke to earn 162 points and second place, while Astellas Cycling Team chalked two top-10 finishes for a third-place 102 points. Isagenix-SeaSucker-Guttenplan Coaching stands fourth with 73 points, followed by The 706 Project p/b UnitedHealthcare of Gerogia with 26 points.
 
On the women’s side, UnitedHealthcare turned in an impressive first day, which included top finishes by Barnes and Rivera, earning 252 points for the standings lead. ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI had a pair of top-five finishes by Schneider and Soto to collect 180 points, while Colavita-Bianchi p/b Fine Cooking rode Allar’s bronze medal to third place with 129 points. Pepper Palace Pro Cycling p/b the Happy Tooth and Argon 18 Racing p/b November & Fast Freddie Apparel round out the women’s team top five with 55 and 24 points, respectively.
