NCC: Keough, Colavita-Fine Cooking reclaim NCC standings leads

Print (June 25, 2014) – New USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC) standings leaders in men’s individual and women’s team standings emerged after strong showings at the Tour of America’s Dairyland in Wisconsin June 19-23.
MEN
Luke Keough (Sandwich, Mass./UnitedHealthcare) reclaimed his spot as the top rider in the men’s standings after finishing second and third in the June 21 and June 22 criteriums, respectively, which helped him to a third-place finish in the June 22 omnium. Keough now has 379 points. Daniel Holloway (Morgan Hill, Calif./Athlete Octane Cycling) jumped from fourth to second in the standings with 366 points following top-three finishes in both criteriums and a second-place finish in the June 22 omnium, while Isaac Howe (Winooski, Vt./Champion System-Stan's No Tubes) dropped from third to fourth in the standings with 279 points after a sixth-place effort in the omnium. Adam Myerson (Dorchester, Mass./Team SmartStop p/b Mountain Khakis) cracked into the top five with 266 points following respective fourth- and fifth-place criterium finishes and a fourth-place omnium finish, while Carlos Alzate Escobar’s (COL/UnitedHealthcare) 334 points dropped from first to third after Escobar did not compete in the Tour of America’s Dairyland.
WOMEN
Erica Allar (Tucson, Ariz./Colavita Racing, Inc.) added to her women’s standings lead with 587 points after a second-place effort in the omnium, which was comprised of respective third- and first-place finishes in the two criteriums. Tina Pic (Hailey, Idaho/Fearless Femme) jumped from third to second with 446 points following her third-place effort in the omnium and fifth- and fourth-place criterium finishes. Laura Van Gilder (Cresco, Pa./Van Dessel Factory Team p/b Mellow Mushroom) held her spot in fourth with 425 points on the heels of her sixth-place omnium and third-place June 22 criterium performances, while Samantha Schneider (Milwaukee, Wis./TIBCO-To the Top) muscled her way back into the top five with 342 points after winning the omnium, which placed her in fifth. Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) dropped from second to third with 430 points after not competing at the Tour of America’s Dairyland.
TEAM
The men’s top five remained unchanged, as UnitedHealthcare maintained its lead following two top-three finishes in the omnium, bringing its point total to 1819. Athlete Octane Cycling added 159 points to its total with three top-15 finishes, totaling 617 points on the season. Astellas Cycling Team now has 515 points and is third, Champion System-Stan's NoTubes stands fourth with 501 and SmartStop Pro Cycling remains fifth with 393 points.
Colavita-Fine Cooking took over the women’s team standings lead following Allar’s strong weekend, bringing the team point total to 1113. UnitedHealthcare dropped from first to second with 1034 points after not recording any rankings points at the Tour of America’s Dairyland, while TIBCO/To the Top held its third-place ranking with 989 points thanks to three top-10 omnium finishes at the event. Pepper Palace Pro Cycling and Fearless Femme held their respective fourth- and fifth-place standings, finishing out the week with 652 and 525 points.
Following the Tour of America’s Dairyland, the top-six ranked men’s domestic elite teams have been offered entry into the 2014 Smart Choice USA Cycling Professional Criterium National Championships in High Point, N.C., on Sept. 6. Those teams are: Athlete Octane Cycling, KHS-Maxxis p/b JAKROO, Stan’s NoTubes p/b Proferrin, SeaSucker/Guttenplan Coaching, Kelly Benefit Strategies Elite and Van Dessel Factory Team.
