NCC Allar UnitedHealthcare maintain standings leads

Print (May 30, 2014) -- The USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC) continued with the Middle Earth Tour of Somerville in Somerville, N.J. on May 26, the sixth event on the 2014 calendar.
MEN
A fourth-place finish for Adam Myerson (Dorchester, Mass./SmartStop Pro Cycling) gave him 68.22 points, which was good enough to propel him into the men’s top 5, while Isaac Howe (Winooski, Vt./Champion System-Stans No Tubes) was able to hold on to his second-place standing with an 18th-place effort in Somerville. Carlos Alzate Escobar (COL/UnitedHealthcare) still holds the top spot at 280 points, followed by Howe with 200, Daniel Holloway (Morgan Hill, Calif./Athlete Octane Cycling) with 188, Luke Keough (Sandwich, Mass./UnitedHealthcare) with 177 and Myerson with 158. Adam Alexander (New York, N.Y./CRCA-Foundation) won the men's competition in 1:39:48.
WOMEN
Erica Allar’s (Tucson, Ariz./Colavita-Fine Cooking) time of 49:57:00 earned gold and maintained her top spot in the women’s NCC standings, while UnitedHealthcare teammates Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif.) and Hannah Barnes (GBR) rounded out the podium. The women’s standings nearly remained unchanged with Allar in first with 385 points, followed by Laura Van Gilder (Cresco, Pa./Van Dessel Factory Team p/b Mellow Mushroom) in second with 289 and Rivera in third with 280. Tina Pic (Hailey, Idaho/Fearless Femme) managed to pass Alison Powers (Pinecliffe, Colo./UnitedHealthcare) for fourth in the women’s standings after Pic finished fifth at the Middle Earth Tour of Somerville. Pic and Powers have accumulated 224 and 195 points, respectively.
TEAM
UnitedHealthcare still finds itself atop the men's and women's team standings after another strong showing in at the Middle Earth Tour of Somerville. The team maintained its firm grip in the men’s standings, increasing its point total to 810, while second-place Astellas Cycling Team has 333. On the women’s side, the standings tightened as second-place Colavita-Fine Cooking pulled to within six points of UnitedHealthcare’s 669 after Colativa-Fine Cooking picked up the team win over the weekend.
