Hammer strong to open women’s omnium at Track World Championships

  
  


(Feb. 21, 2015) – Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR) is ranked sixth overall in the women’s omnium after reaching the midpoint of the six-race event on Saturday at the 2015 UCI Track World Championships in St. Quentin en Yvelines, France.

Hammer opened up the women’s omnium in sixth place after collecting 82 points in the first three events. She finished eighth in the scratch race, fourth in the individual pursuit and closed the day with a 10th-place effort in the elimination race. Kirsten Wild (NED) currently stands first with 102 points, followed by Annette Edmondson (AUS) with 98 points and Laura Trott (GBR) with 96 points.
 
Hammer has won two consecutive omnium world championships and has collected seven Rainbow Jerseys during her decorated career.
 
In the men’s omnium, Jacob Duehring (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) closed out the final three categories—the 1km time trial, flying lap and points race—to finish 18th overall with 61 points. Duehring’s day began with the time trial, where he finished in 1:05.754 for 18th, followed by a 16th-place 13.438 flying lap and 21 points in the points race. Fernando Gaviria Rendon (COL) won the omnium with 205 points, Glenn O’Shea (AUS) took second with 190 points and Elia Viviani (ITA) placed third with 181 points.
 
Kim Geist (Emmaus, Pa./Chester County Cycling Foundation-Team Alliance Environmental) capped an impressive week at Worlds with an eighth-place finish in the women’s scratch race, following the pace of gold medalist Wild, silver medalist Amy Cure (AUS) and bronze medalist Allison Beveridge (CAN).
 
Bobby Lea (Mertztown, Pa./Custom Velo) recorded a 4:27.477 run in the men’s individual pursuit qualifier to take 13th overall. Stefan Kueng (SUI) took gold in the event in 4:18.915, pacing Jack Bobridge’s (AUS) 4:19.184 run and Julien Morice (FRA), who earned bronze in 4:21.419.
 
The men’s and women’s sprint also ran on Saturday.
 
Competition closes on Sunday with the conclusion of the women’s omnium, where Hammer seeks a third consecutive title in the event as she clips in for the 500m time trial, flying lap and points race. Missy Erickson (Alexandria, Minn./Momentum Coaching Group p/b Atomic-Momentum Coaching Group) will also take on the women’s keirin.
 
Sunday’s lineup will also see the men’s keirin and the conclusion of the men’s sprint.
