Valente takes silver in women’s individual pursuit at UCI Track Worlds

  
  


(Feb. 20, 2015) – Jennifer Valente (San Diego, Calif./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR) recorded the top U.S. result of the 2015 UCI Track World Championships in St. Quentin en Yvelines, France, when she picked up the women’s individual pursuit silver medal on Friday, which is the third medal for Team USA in as many days.

A member of Team USA’s team pursuit lineup that claimed fifth on Thursday, Valente opened the day with the second best individual pursuit qualification time of the morning, finishing in 3:29.547. She went up against Australian Rebecca Wiasak in the gold medal final, where she crossed in 3:33.867, taking silver behind Wiasak’s 3:30.305 pace. Australian Amy Cure took bronze in 3:32.907.
 
Nick Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa./QCW Breakawaybikes.com p/b Felt Bicycles-JLVelo) assembled an impressive men’s points race run, accumulating 12 points en route to a 10th-place finish. Rogers won the final two sprints of the race and finished fourth in the 13th and 14th sprints to record the top-10 result.
 
Jacob Duehring (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) stands 18th in the men’s omnium standings with 24 points after placing 18th in the scratch race, 19th in the individual pursuit and 14th in the elimination race. The men’s omnium concludes on Saturday with the 1km time trial, flying lap and points race.
 
Friday opened with the women’s sprint qualifier, where Missy Erickson (Alexandria, Minn./Momentum Coaching Group p/b Atomic-Momentum Coaching Group) narrowly missed advancing to the 1/16 women’s sprint, coming just 0.060 seconds short of the cutoff by finishing in 11.326 seconds.
 
Saturday will see four Americans race for Rainbow Jerseys: Bobby Lea (Mertztown, Pa./Custom Velo) looks to add to his scratch race bronze medal when he takes on the men’s individual pursuit; Kim Geist (Emmaus, Pa./Chester County Cycling Foundation-Team Alliance Environmental) seeks a second medal this week in the women’s scratch race; Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR) races the first three events of the women’s omnium in the individual pursuit, scratch and elimination races; and Duehring closes out the men’s omnium.
 
Also running Saturday will be the conclusion of the women’s sprint and the opening rounds of the men’s sprint.
