(Feb. 19, 2015) – Bobby Lea (Mertztown, Pa./Custom Velo) became the second American to reach the podium at the 2015 UCI Track World Championships in St. Quentin en Yvelines, France, after placing third in the men’s scratch race.

Lea assembled the third best scratch race run of the day, only trailing gold medalist Lucas Liss (GER) and silver medalist Albert Torres Barcelo (ESP) in the field of 20. His Day 2 bronze medal performance was the second bronze medal for Team USA at the 2015 UCI Track World Championships. Kim Geist led things off for the U.S. in the women’s points race on Wednesday.

Despite setting an American record in the women’s team pursuit in the first round, the American lineup of Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR), Lauren Tamayo (Asheville, N.C./ UCI PCT/WPT: UnitedHealthcare) Jennifer Valente (San Diego, Calif./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR) and Ruth Winder (Lafayette, Calif./UCI PCT/WPT: UnitedHealthcare) just missed the medal round after posting a 4:24.145 run, which was the fifth-best time that round. Team USA clinched fifth in the final after topping China in the 5-6 contest with a 4:25.693 result. Australia won gold in 4:13.683, Great Britain earned silver in 4:16.702 and Canada took bronze in 4:17.864.

Matt Baranoski (Perkasie, Pa./Custom Velo) nearly advanced from the men’s keirin first round repechage but was unable to move on to the second round after being relegated for failing to hold his line during the final 200 meters of the race. In the men’s keirin final, Francois Pervis (FRA) earned gold, Edward Dawkins (NZL) finished 0.085 seconds back for silver and Azizulhasni Awang (MAS) crossed 0.229 seconds back for bronze.

The women’s 500m time trial and men’s team pursuit were also contested on Thursday.

As the 2015 UCI Track World Championships reaches the midpoint on Friday, Team USA will send four competitors to the start line: Jacob Duehring (Irvine, Calif./GS Ciao) will ride the first three events of the men’s omnium, taking on the individual pursuit, scratch and elimination races; Nick Rogers (Philadelphia, Pa./QCW Breakawaybikes.com p/b Felt Bicycles-JLVelo) will clip in for the men’s points race; Missy Erickson (Alexandria, Minn./Momentum Coaching Group p/b Atomic-Momentum Coaching Group) has sights set on the women’s sprint qualifier and potentially 1/16 finals, 1/8 finals and quarterfinals; and Valente, after racing in the team pursuit the first two days, will go solo in the women’s individual pursuit.

Team USA will not compete in the men's 1km time trial on Friday.
