(Photo by James Herrera) With the road riders taking a short break between racing blocks, the USA Cycling National Development Program (NDP) focused on the second BMX Evolution Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., from March 17-24.
A premier group of 16 BMX athletes assembled to participate in the camp under the guidance of USA Cycling High Performance Director of Sprint Jamie Staff, National BMX Coach James Herrera, and developmental coaches Jeff Glynn and Kenth Fallen.
The camp was a combination of training, testing, and learning, and all athletes enjoyed breakthrough performances. The riders participated in performance-based testing on the London-replica Supercross track, along with various exercises in the gym.

They're learning the attention to detail and professionalism required to succeed at the international level of competition. Receiving feedback from a four-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist, in Jamie Staff, is an invaluable experience for these athletes. I have no doubts that we're grooming the next crop of Olympic medalists," Herrera said after the camp.

Want to be part of USA Cycling’s Development Program? The first step is getting on USA Cycling’s radar. One of the best ways to do this is by attending a USA Cycling Regional Talent Identification Camp. The primary goal of the Talent ID Camps is to recognize athletes who, at an early age, show signs of potential future success in cycling. Receiving instruction from some of USA Cycling’s finest coaches, the camps also provide the necessary framework to improve the athletes skill set thus progressing their talent development. In some cases, the Regional Talent ID Camps assist in selecting riders for international competition and/or a national development camp.
