Devo Wrap: BMX Camp underway in Chula Vista

Riders in the USA Cycling National Development Program are participating in a BMX Junior Development Program Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

A group of nine riders are participating in the second BMX Junior Development Program Camp of the 2012 BMX season. The week-long camp started Monday, Oct. 3 and will continue until Oct. 9 at the Supercross track at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

The riders participating in the camp are:

Matt Chism (Huntington Beach, Calif./Bike Alley-Redline-Rocks)
Carlie Ferree (Quartz Hill, Calif./Redman Rockstar)
Destiny Ford (Rio Linda, Calif./Ssquared-AtomLab)
Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif./Factory Intense)
Collin Hudson (Longmont, Colo./Factory Crupi-Pro-Gate)
Mikey Richardson (Red Oak, Texas/Accurate Dent Repair-Zer)
Sam Robey (Cypress, Texas/ORP-Rickard Bikes)
Taylor Stephens (Redmond, Ore./Aggro Bikes.com)
Alexander Strand (Boulder City, Nev./Aggro Bikes.com)

Chula Vista features a track mimicking the BMX track used in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Through the camp, riders are tested on sprint speeds, both on flat ground and the eight-meter (26') tall World Cup starting hill. Their skills are also tested jumping 40' obstacles, negotiating turns and overall lap times.

TRACK

USA Cycling's High Performance Director of Endurance Programs Benjamin Sharp is leading a team pursuit camp at the velodrome at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Full details of the camp will be included in next week's development wrap.
