Valente strikes gold on third day of junior track worlds

Valente rode a tactical and patient race and was in a good position with two laps remaining in the contest. At the sound of the bell, Valente attacked and led the race without competition, coasting to victory.
Matthew Baranoski (Perkasie, Pa./SUB 49) continued to perform well, placing seventh in the men’s sprint. Baranoski knocked out the fourth seed Luke Parker (AUS) and then ninth seed Timothy McMillan (AUS) in the 1/8th final before losing in three rides to John Paul (GBR) in the 1/4 final. After a very short break, Baranoski recovered sufficiently to place seventh in the 5-8 final.
Mathew Lipscomb (Decatur, Ga./Greenville Spinners Bicycle Club-Hincapie Development team) came on strong on the second day of the men’s omnium races to finish 17th overall. Lipscomb placed seventh in the individual pursuit before finishing sixth in the 10-kilometer scratch race and 14th in the one-kilometer time trial.
Contesting the women’s omnium for the United States of America is Kate Wilson (Los Angeles, Calif./FLYING PIGS). Wilson earned a 13th-place finish in the flying lap and a 12th–place result in the points race.
