Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 7, 2014) — USA Cycling on Monday announced the 12 athletes scheduled to represent the United States at the 2014 UCI Juniors Track World Championships in Seoul, Korea, from Aug. 8-12.

The team is comprised of nine men and three women, all of whom qualified as automatic selections (as outlined in USA Cycling’s selection criteria) by winning their respective races at the 2014 USA Cycling Juniors Track National Championships held in Carson, Calif., June 25-29.

Dominic Suozzi (San Pedro, Calif./Team Winded Development) was an automatic selection to compete in the match sprint, 1km time trial, keirin and team sprint after winning gold in all four events in Carson. He will be joined in the individual events by Thorsten Askervold (Lake Stevens, Wash./HSP) in the scratch race and omnium, Nikkos Hessert (Evanston, Ill./xXx Racing) in the points race, and Gavin Hoover (Manhattan Beach, Calif./SKLZ-Swami's Development Elite Team) in the individual pursuit.

In the team events, Suozzi will join forces with Edward Horvet (West Hills, Calif./LUX-Specialized by Cynergy) and James Mellen (Schnecksville, Pa./Sprinter's Edge Track Development Team) in the team sprint after the trio teamed up to win the 17-18 division at the juniors nationals last month. The men's team pursuit squad, also winners in Carson, will be comprised of Hessert, Weston Flickinger (Akron, Ohio/Summit Freewheelers), Chazmichael Morales (El Segundo, Calif.) and Matthew Valencia (Los Altos, Calif./NCCF-Team Specialized Juniors).

The talented women's squad will consist of national champions Julia Sante (Queensbury, N.Y./Farm Team Cycling), Kirsten Williams (Lonetree, Colo./TWENTY16 Junior Development Team) and Danielle Mullis (Rochester, Mich./West Michigan Coast Riders). Sante will race the match sprint, 500m time trial and keirin. Williams will contest the individual pursuit and omnium, while Mullis will take to the track in the scratch race and points race. Sante and Mullis will also race together in the women's team sprint event.

"These junior athletes have shown they are the best in the nation, and now we look forward to seeing how we stack up against the best in the world,” USA Cycling Vice President of Athletics Jim Miller said. “The experience they will gain from competing at a world championship in a foreign country will be invaluable in their development."
