Ponferrada, Spain (September 24, 2014) -- After a few days of rain, the clouds gave way to brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures for Wednesday's elite men's time trial at the 2014 UCI Road World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain.

Andrew Talansky (Napa, Calif./Garmin-Sharp) turned in the top performance for Team USA, covering the 47.1-kilometer course around the city in 58:46, good for 15th place overall. His time was two minutes and 20 seconds behind the winning time of 56:25 recorded by 2012 Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins of Great Britain. Talansky's teammate, Tejay van Garderen (Boulder, Colo./BMC Racing Team), placed 37th, 3:44 off the pace.

Last year, it was Germany's Tony Martin who dominated the time trial as he defeated Wiggins by 46 seconds to capture his third straight gold medal. Wiggins turned the tables this year in Spain, besting Martin by over 26 seconds and breaking his string of victories. Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands took the bronze medal, 40.64 seconds back of Wiggins.

The Team USA riders will enjoy a rest day on Thursday before the road races commence. Friday will feature the juniors women and U23 men, with the juniors men and elite women taking to the streets on Saturday, and the elite men wrapping up the world championships with their road race on Sunday.
