Pro GRT: Gwin, Gandolf record victories at Pro GRT Mountain Creek Spring Classic

  
  


(May 22, 2014) -- Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif./Specialized) and Rae Gandolf (Zanesville, Ohio/ Kona Bikes-Kenda-HWB Cycling) picked up their first two 2014 USA Cycling Pro Gravity Tour (Pro GRT) wins of the season May 18 at the Mountain Creek Spring Classic (Vernon, N.J.).
 
The win propelled Gandolf to the top women’s spot in the Pro GRT Standings, while Gwin sits in second on the men’s side after two stops on this year’s tour. The victory was Gwin’s second Spring Classic win in the last three years.

PRO WOMEN
Gandolf posted the top women’s time of the day at 2:51.94, besting Lauren Daney (Stafford, Va./Deity) and Alison Zimmer (Lincoln, Vt./VT Gravity Racing), who rounded out the top 3 with respective times of 2:53.38 and 2:54.84. Elinor Wesner (Cresskill, N.J.) took fourth in 2:56.22 and Mary Elges (Windsor, Conn./Speed Legion) finished fifth with a time of 2:59.59.
 
PRO MEN
Gwin edged second place finisher Neko Mulally (Pisgah, N.C./Trek World Racing), who held the hot seat through 56 challengers until Gwin edged his time of 2:09.29 by 1.28 seconds, landing the top time of 2:08.01. Mitch Ropelato (Ogden, Utah/Specialized) placed third at 2:10.12, while New Zealanders Brook MacDonald (NZL/Trek World Racing) and George Brannigan (NZL/Trek World Racing) took fourth and fifth at 2:10.29 and 2:11.07, respectively.
