'Toona tightens men's and women's NRC standings

With nine events for the men remaining on USA Cycling's National Racing Calendar (NRC), Frank Pipp (Boulder, Colo./Bissell Pro Cycling) jumped from seventh into third place in USA Cycling men's NRC standings. Pipp finished sixth in last weekend's Tour de 'Toona in Altoona, Pa. Francisco Mancebo (ESP/Realcyclist.com) still holds a 52-point lead on second-place rider Jacobe Keough (Sandwich, Mass./UnitedHealthcare Professional Cycling). Jonathan Cantwell (AUS/Team Fly V), who slipped from third to fourth, holds a slim six-point cushion on Alejandro Borrajo (ARG/Jamis-Sutter Home), who sits in fifth place.

Bissell Pro Cycling assumed the lead in the men's team standings and now holds a 57-point edge on UnitedHealthcare Professional Cycling. Jamis-Sutter Home remains in third place with a 171-point cushion on Team Exergy. PureBlack Racing bumped Realcyclist.com from the fifth position.

At the Tour de 'Toona, Scott Lyttle (NZL/PureBlack Racing) topped the general classification after totaling two wins and four top-five finishes. Chris Baldwin (Boulder, Colo./Bissell Pro Cycling) finished 37 seconds behind Lyttle in second place. Brett Tivers (NZL/Garneau-Club Chaussures-Norton) finished third. Lyttle won Thursday's road race and the stage race on Sunday by a convincing 47 seconds.

On July 16, the men will contest the criterium at the Boise Twilight in Boise, Idaho.

Women

With nine events for the women remaining on USA Cycling's NRC, Amber Neben's (Lake Forest, Calif./HTC Highroad Women) lead over Janel Holcomb (San Diego, Calif./Colavita-Forno d'Asolo) is down to 54 points. Holcomb won the general classification at the Tour de 'Toona to trim 108 points off Neben's margin. Erinne Willock (CAN/Team TIBCO to the Top) remains in third place, 127 points behind Holcomb. Leah Kirchmann (CAN/Colavita-Forno d'Asolo) jumped from sixth into fourth place and Kristin Armstrong Savola (Boise, Idaho/Peanut Butter & Co TWENTY 12) dropped from fourth to fifth place.

Colavita-Forno d'Asolo expanded its lead in the women's NRC team standings to 776 points over Team TIBCO to the Top. HTC-Highroad Women lost ground to Team TIBCO to the Top and is now 413 points out of second place. Diadora Pasta Zara sits in fourth place, 130 points ahead of Primal/MapMyRider.

Holcomb posted three top-five finishes, including an impressive win in Saturday's stage race at the Tour de 'Toona to top the women's general classification. Holcomb won the stage race and the general classification by 1:06. Tara Whitten (CAN/Team TIBCO to the Top) placed second and Kathryn Donovan (Oxnard, Calif./Southern California Velo) finished third overall.

The next NRC event for the women is the BMC Cascade Cycling Classic in Bend, Ore., from July 19-24.

Trio tops National Time Trial Calendar standings

After the time trial event at the USA Cycling Junior, U23, Elite and Para Road National Championships in Augusta, Ga., on June 23 at Lake Strom Thurmond and Dam and the Blazin' Saddles Time Trial in Philipsburg, Mont., on July 2, there is a logjam atop the USA Cycling National Time Trial Calendar. Nathan Brown (Covington, Tenn./Trek Livestrong U23), LeRoy Popowski (Colorado Springs, Colo/Team juwi solar-First Solar) and Brian Williams (Missoula, Mont./Northern Rockies Orthopaedic) each stake a claim to the top spot of the men's NTTC standings with 20 points apiece. Landen Beckner (Helena, Mont./Montana Velo), Lawson Craddock (Austin, Texas/Trek Livestrong U23) and Greg Krause (Littleton, Colo) are tied for fourth with 17 points.

Carmen Small (Durango, Colo./Team TIBCO to the Top) paces the the women's NTTC standings with 25 points. Lindsy Campbell (Missoula, Mont./Northern Rockies Orthopaedic), Kristin McGrath (Durango, Colo./Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12) and Evelyn Stevens (Dennis, Mass./HTC Highroad Women) are knotted in second place with 20 points while Jeannie Longo (France) and Amber Neben (Lake Forest, Calif./HTC Highroad Women) are tied for fourth with 17 points.

The next event on the NTTC is the Masters Road National Championships Time Trial in Bend, Ore., on Aug. 31.
