NRC: Murphy, Hincapie Racing Team claim men’s leads

  
  


(June 5, 2015) – John Murphy (Horse Shoe, N.C./UnitedHealthcare) and the Hincapie Racing Team nabbed men’s individual and team National Racing Calendar (NRC) standings leads after the May 31 Winston-Salem Cycling Classic in Winston Salem, N.C.
 
MEN’S

Murphy picked up the top spot in the men's NRC standings on May 31.

Murphy claimed the top spot in the men’s standings with 356 points after finishing 15th at the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic criterium. Gregory Brenes (Northvale, N.J./Jamis Hagens Berman p/b Sutter) dropped from first to second with 344 points, Gavin Mannion (Austin, Texas/Jelly Belly p/b Maxxis) remained third with 304 points and Robinson Chalapud (COL/Orgullo Antioqueno) held fourth with 282 points after all three did not record any points at the event. Mike Woods (CAN/Tucker, Ga./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) moved into fifth place with 274 points after finishing 22nd at the event.
 
WOMEN’S
 
Mara Abbott (Boulder, Colo./Wiggle-Honda) retained her lead in the women’s standings with 570 points despite not recording any points on the weekend, while Lauren Stephens (Dallas, Texas/Team TIBCO-SVB) closed her second-place gap with a seventh-place finish at the event, which brought her point total to 524. Amber Neben (Lake Forest, Calif./FCS Cycling-Visit Dallas Cycling p/b Noise4Good) remained third with 484 points following a silver medal-winning effort in North Carolina, and Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) ascended to fourth with 368 points following her fourth-place finish. Katie Hall (Oakland, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) rounds out the top five with 324 points after not recording any points over the weekend.

TEAM
 
The Hincapie Racing Team jumped into first with 868 points after three top-five finishes at the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic. Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies moved from first to second with 848 points despite Jesse Anthony’s (Newbury Park, Calif./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) fourth-place effort, while Jamis Hagens Berman p/b Sutter dropped from second to third with 788 points. Team Smartstop Pro Cycling climbed from fifth to fourth with 612 points thanks to Jure Kocjan’s (SLO/Team Smartstop Pro Cycling) podium finish, while UnitedHealthcare fell from third to fifth with 550 points.


The women’s standings remained nearly unchanged, as UnitedHealthcare increased its commanding lead over the field with 1358 points on the heels of Rivera’s fourth-place result, while Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies held second with 968 points after recording one top-20 finish at the event. Visit Dallas Cycling p/b Noise4Good remains third with 826 points thanks to Neben’s podium finish. TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR overtook Team TIBCO-SVB for fourth with 700 points following two top-six finishes, while the fifth-place Team TIBCO-SVB has 620 points.
