USA Cycling's National Development program performing well all over the world

USA Cycling's National Development Program's men's and women's teams competed in several races in Europe and held a camp in southern California, last week.

ROAD

Tanner Putt (Roswell, Ga./Team Type 1) led a group of five USA Cycling U23 riders in the Trofeo Edil in Collechi, Italy. Putt attacked the field and bridged with four other riders to a group of nine leaders. Those 14 riders held the lead until ultimately being caught on the last lap. Eamon Franck (Pacific Grove, Calif./California Giant) also performed well before a flat tire ended his day two laps short of completing the race. The Trofeo Edil consisted of seven laps of a 12.6 kilometer course and four laps around a 16 kilometer loop, totaling 150 kilometers.

Lawson Craddock (Houston, Texas/Trek-Livestrong) led a group of six USA Cycling U23 riders in the U23 Tour of Flanders, one of the top espoir races in the world. Craddock placed 11th while Ryan Eastman (Petlauma, Calif./All Sport-Team Swift) finished 23rd and Rob Squire (Sandy, Utah/Chipotle Development Team) was 36th. The course in Belgium included 17 climbs and spanned a total of 172.1 kilometers. This result has the U.S. team in sixth place for the 2011 Nation's Cup.

Kristin McGrath (Durango, Colo/Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12) and Tayler Wiles (Murray, Utah/Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12) placed 42nd and 54th, respectively in the Van Lauwerszee tot Dollard tou from April 7-10. Jackie Crowell (Maitland, Fla./Colavita Racing) placed 69th and Alison Tetrick Starnes (Mill Valley, Calif./Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12/Team TIBCO II) rounded out the U.S. finishers at 80th. TRACK

USA Cycling held a camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., from April 4-8. The camp offers junior and elite road and track riders a training session in advance of the Pan Am Championships in Colombia in early May.

The riders participated in early morning rides, road rides, track rides, workout sessions in the gym and some educational video sessions from the World Championships in Apeldoorn.

BMX

USA Cycling BMX Development Program athlete Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./GT Bicycles) won the opening round of the BMX Supercross World Cup on Saturday in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. The 19-year-old Sharrah got the hole shot in the final and never lost control of the race, powering all the way to his first Supercross win. For more on this race, click here.

DEVELOPMENT CAMPS

All riders interested in petitioning for a spot at one of the European mountain bike race camps, please be aware that the deadline for the first and second camps is Monday, April 18.

The camps offer high-level European race experience for the best young mountain bike racers.
