Juniors Track National Championships kick off Wednesday in Carson, Calif.

  
  


Colorado Springs, Colo. (June 24, 2014) – Thirty national titles will be on the line this week as top juniors cyclists from around the nation face off at the VELO Sports Center in Carson, Calif., June 25-29, for the 2014 USA Cycling Juniors Track National Championships.

Cyclists ages 9-16 will compete for Stars-and-Stripes jerseys in multi-race omniums while riders in the 17-18 category will race for national titles in the individual pursuit, time trial, international omnium, points race, sprint, keirin and scratch race. National titles will also be on the line for teams in the team pursuit, team sprint and Madison. See the complete schedule of events here.

Among those returning to the 2014 USA Cycling Juniors Track National Championships are seasoned junior riders and 2013 multi-champions Sandor Delgado (Hialeah, Fla./Interactive Metronome p/b Mega Cycle), Gage Hecht (Parker, Colo./NCCF-Team Specialized Juniors), Summer Moak (Katy, Texas/TWENTY16 Junior Development Team), Danielle Mullis (Rochester, Mich./West Michigan Coast Riders) and Emma Workowski (Kutztown, Pa./T Town Express).

In addition to the Stars-and-Stripes jerseys that are on the line, automatic nominations are also up for grabs for juniors in the 17-18 age group to represent the U.S. at the 2014 UCI Juniors Track World Championships. Riders may earn an automatic nomination by meeting a time standard and winning the sprint, keirin, team sprint, team pursuit, international omnium, individual pursuit or time trial. Olympic silver medalists Sarah Hammer and Dotsie Bausch have given female riders extra incentive to excel at this year’s event, offering a $1,600 grant to any female in the 15-16 age group who can beat Hammer’s 2-kilometer time trial national record time of 2:40.40, set in 1999. If more than one rider bests Hammer's record, the winner will be the one with the fastest time. Additionally, their Olympic teammate and silver medal winner Jennie Reed is contributing grants to any male or female juniors rider that breaks a national record in the flying 200 meter time trial, 500 meter time trial, 1km, 2km or 3km races at the 2014 USA Cycling Juniors Track National Championships. The breakdown of awards and times to beat will be as follows:

Age 15-16 - $400
