Fields, Crain earn time trial superfinal medals at BMX Supercross

The second round of the 2012 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series got underway in Randaberg, Norway on Friday with Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) winning the men’s time trial superfinal and 16 American riders qualifying through to tomorrow’s main event. Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro Bikes) earned the second medal of the day for the U.S. with a bronze in the women’s time trial superfinal.

After winning Friday's time trial superfinal, Fields will be in search of his third consecutive World Cup victory in Saturday's main.
After winning Friday's time trial superfinal, Fields will be in search of his third consecutive World Cup victory in Saturday's main.
Fields, who won the opening round time trial superfinal two weeks ago in Chula Vista, posted a 32.134 on his second time trial superfinal run to edge Great Britain’s Lian Phillips by 2/10ths of a second.

“I am happy right now,” “I am feeling good and that results in great form and riding well,” explained Fields. “Tomorrow I am going to go out there and do my best. I want to win every race I am in. I don’t think I have a certain type of track that suits me. I just enjoy riding my bike, wherever it is.”

2008 Olympic silver medalist Mike Day (San Diego, Calif./GT Bicycles) finished fifth for the U.S. while 16 total Americans placed in the top 64 of the time trial and will move on to tomorrow’s supercross elimination rounds, or main event.

Crain finished less than half a second off the pace of Australia’s Caroline Buchannan to grab third place in the elite women’s time trial superfinal. All six American women finished among the top 32 in the time trial and will go on to tomorrow’s elimination rounds.

With crucial Olympic qualifying points up for grabs all 16 Americans will put it all on the line on the brand new Randaberg track at 10 a.m. ET tomorrow.
