The final stop of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series presented by Swatch got underway in Chula Vista, Calif. on Friday with two Americans, Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) and Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro-Rockstar), coming away with the men’s and women’s victories in the time trial superfinal.

After one round of time trials the best 16 men and ladies qualified for the time trial superfinals. Fields posted the fastest time of the nearly 150 elite men in the opening time trial heat with a 34.073. The 19 year-old then went on to score his best-ever time with a 33.886 on the second run to win the select time trial superfinal. With that personal record Fields bumped Tory Nyhaug (CAN) out of the hot seat after his 34.191. Raymond van der Biezen was in third with a time of 34.409.

“This is my home track. I have done hundreds of time trials here before and that was my fastest one ever,” explained Fields who rode near flawless rides back-to-back.  “I know what to do and I know my way around this track. It definitely helps having a race at your home track. You cannot ride scared. That is when you fall. You have to ride as hard as you can, then you are going to be alright. This definitely gives me confidence for tomorrow."

sixth best time in her initial time trial run the 18 year-old Crain outperformed a star-studded field, including current world champion Mariana Pajon (COL), in the time trial superfinal. Recently making the transition into the elite field, Crain rode the Chula Vista course in 36.364, just fractions of a second faster than Pajon and Arielle Martin (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Intense BMX) who scored the bronze.

With this result Fields and Crain secured the top spots going into tomorrow’s main event. In total, 23 American men were among the 64 who qualified for Saturday’s 1/8 finals and 10 American ladies among the 32 women for the quarterfinals. Tomorrow they will race against each other in heats of eight riders over three motos. The best four of each heat will qualify for the next round through to quarterfinals and finals.

The overall winners of this year’s Supercross World Cup in elite men and elite women will be decided tomorrow during this fourth stop of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, sponsored by Swatch.

Watch the main event live from Chula Vista on Universal Sports from 7 – 9 p.m. ET on Saturday.
