Bostrom takes over Pro UET lead, Mata holds after Sagebrush
With the victory Bostrom moved into first place in the men's individual standings, pulling ahead of David "Tinker" Juarez (Whittier, Calif./Cannondale Factory) after two of five Pro UET events on the season. Juarez, winner of the calendar's opening round, currently sits in second overall after sitting out the Sagebrush event and Kip Biese (Colorado Springs, Colo./KJ Bike Coaching) is in third after a sixth-place result at Sagebrush.
In the Sagebrush Safari 50, Bostrom’s teammate, 19 year-old Brendon Davids (RSA/Team Sho-Air - Specialized), played a huge support role throughout the day and finished in second place to deliver a one-two punch. Dana Weber (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Pro Bike Supply) rounded out the podium in third, followed by Ryan Clark (Laguna Hills, Calif./Surf CIty Cyclery) and Romolo Forcino (Oak Hills, Calif./Chains Required Bike).
In the women’s race, Mata showed why she is considered one of the best female endurance athletes in the world as she won her second straight Pro UET race by over twenty three minutes. Sarah Jansen took a well-earned second place finish, while Tonya Bray (Altadena, Calif./MTBchick.com) rounded out the podium in third. With her silver Jansen moves into a tie for second place overall with Andrea Wilson (Cordova, Tenn./Mid South Velo) while Bray moves into fourth with 30 total points.
