Spa City 6-Hour kick starts the Pro UET in Arkansas March 10

The Spa City 6-Hour Mountain Bike Race is set to kick-off the USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Ultra-Endurance Tour March 10, 2012 at Cedar Glades Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

The first of five events on USA Cycling’s premiere ultra-endurance calendar, the Spa City 6-Hour is honored to announce that David "Tinker" Juarez will be on the starting line.  Tinker is a cycling icon, two-time U.S. Olympian, four-time USA Cycling Mountain Bike 24-hour solo national champion, and 24-hour solo world champion.

"It is such an honor to have Tinker here in Hot Springs," stated Fred Phillips, the CEO of DLT Events. “Tinker started his professional cycling career in 1977 as a BMX Racer.  In 1986 he shifted gears to mountain biking.  Now, a little over 25 years later he is still racing hard.”

The reigning women’s Pro UET champion, Pua Mata is also the returning women's champion from the 2011 edition of the Spa City 6-hour and will be working hard to win again this year.  Pua holds six USA Cycling National Championship titles in the Marathon and 24-hour racing divisions.

The 6-Hour Mountain Bike Race is contested at Cedar Glades Park, located in Garland County, on the edge of Hot Springs, Arkansas. The course is a 10.2-mile loop with roughly 1,000 feet of elevation change per lap containing about 80% single track with the reaming being double track and dirt roads.  The racers will work to accrue as many laps as they can within the six-hour period. The winner will be the individuals, male and female, that accumulate the greatest number of laps within the allotted time.  The top overall finishers will share in a $2,500 purse and will accumulate points in both the USA Cycling Pro Ultra Endurance Tour (Pro UET) as well as the Arkansas Mt Bike Marathon Series.

The Spa City 6-Hour is now in its ninth year and its fourth year on the Pro UET.  The Hot Springs CVB has been a strong partner for the last five years and helped this event to meet its cumulative fundraising goal of over $10,000 for Teen Challenge of Arkansas, a faith-based drug and alcohol residential rehab program.

The Pro UET will continue on May 20 with the Sagebrush Safari 50 in Lake Morena, Calif.  For more information on the Pro UET, visit usacycling.org/prouet.
