3 U.S. downhillers in top 10 at 2014 Fort William UCI Mountain Bike World Cup
Fort William, Great Britain (June 8, 2014) — American riders posted several top ten finishes Sunday at the third downhill stop on the 2014 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup circuit in Fort William, Great Britain.
Elite Men
Leading the way was Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif./Specialized Racing DH), who just missed a podium spot in the elite men’s race when he finished less than half a second out of third place and 2.516 seconds behind the winner, Troy Brosnan (AUS/Specialized Racing DH). After winning round one and taking third in the second round, Gwin still leads the overall UCI MTB World Cup downhill standings.
Neko Mulally (Pisgah Forest, N.C./Trek World Racing) is fifth in the overall standings after placing 23rd in Fort William. Eliot Jackson (West Lake Village, Calif./Pivot Factory DH Team) took 35th, Mitch Ropelato (Ogden, Utah/Specialized Racing DH) was 50th and Sebastiaan van Steenbergen (Newbury Park, Calif.) placed 62nd on Sunday.
Elite Women
Earlier in the day Jill Kintner (Seattle, Wash./Team Norco International) took fifth in the elite women’s competition. The reigning women’s downhill national champion is now sixth in the UCI’s overall women’s standings.
Junior Men
Luca Shaw (Hendersonville, N.C./ SRAM/Troy Lee Designs Racing) was the top American in the juniors race, stopping the clock for eighth place. He now sits second in the UCI overall junior men’s standings. Shane Leslie (Birmingham, Mich.) took 13th and Galen Carter (Salt Lake City, Utah/Transition Racing) rounded out the top 25 in Fort William.
The downhill world cup circuit continues next weekend in Leogang, Austria, June 14-15, before heading to North America in August for stops in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, and Windham, New York.
