Williams sits in fifth in women's omnium after day four of Junior Track Worlds

  
  


Gwangmyeong, Korea (August 11, 2014) —The 2014 UCI Juniors Track World Championships continued in Gwangmyeong, Korea on Monday with Kirsten Williams (Lonetree, Colo./TWENTY16 Junior Development Team) providing Team USA Cycling with its highlight of the day.
 
Williams lapped the field to win the scratch race portion of the women's international omnium. After dominating the omnium's opening event, she went on to post solid seventh- and tenth-place results in the individual pursuit and elimination race.   
 
Now, halfway through the omnium, Kirsten is sitting in a comfortable fifth-place. Leading the event is Amalie Diderisken (DEN) while Lisa Klein (GER) is second and Macey Stewart (AUS) is third. The women's omnium will conclude on Tuesday with the 500-meter time trial, flying lap, and points race.
 
Also on tap Monday was the women's points race in which American Danielle Mullis (Rochester, Mich./West Michigan Coast Riders) rode to ninth-place. Mullis crossed the line seventh with a total of five points after finishing second in sprint three and fourth in sprints one and five. Winner Camila Valbuena (COL) lapped the field twice for the win with 49 points while Yumi Kajihara (JAP) lapped the field once for second place with 41 points. Josie Talbot (AUS) was third with 22 points.
 
The men's omnium wrapped up on Monday with Thorsten Askervold (Lake Stevens, Wash./HSP) placing 21st in the final standings. After riding to 20th in the scratch race and 21st in both the individual pursuit and elimination race on Sunday, the American continued his omnium competition on Monday with 20th-place in both the kilometer time trial and points race and 21st-place in the flying lap. In the final classification, Casper Pedersen (DEN) claimed the world title while Sam Welsford (AUS) was secod and Jihun Kim (KOR) was third.
 
The early rounds of the men's sprint also took place on Monday with Americans Dominic Suozzi (San Pedro, Calif./Team Winded Development)  and James Mellen (Schnecksville, Pa./Sprinter's Edge Track Development Team) being eliminated in the 1/16 round after battling Sergey Gorlov (RUS) and Patryk Rajkowski (POL).
