U.S. riders capture three medals at Masters Mountain Bike World Championships
(Aug. 28, 2014) – Three American riders reached the podium this week at the 2014 UCI Masters Mountain Bike World Championships, Aug. 22-26, in Lillehammer, Norway.
Lillian Pfluke (Wilmington, Del.) earned the first U.S. medal on Aug. 24, when she finished second in the women’s 55-59 cross-country competition in 1:30:21, nine minutes and 57 seconds behind winner Essi Laub Christensen of Denmark. Chile’s Valerie Coxhead took bronze in 1:56:02.
On the same day, Lars Tribus (Milford, N.J.) claimed the second silver medal for the U.S. in the men’s 40-44 downhill, crossing in 4:22.720. Tim Ponting of Great Britain earned gold in 4:07.631, while France’s Gael Gougne took bronze in 4:28.597.
Steve Agronick (Villages, Fla.) climbed the third step of the men’s 70+ cross-country podium on Aug. 25 after completing the 14-kilometer course in 1:45:19, finishing behind Brazil’s Valdemar Soares, who took gold in 1:28:28, and France’s Guy Durand, who finished second in 1:42:24.
