U.S. earns 10 medals during Pan Am Road & Track Championships

Theresa Cliff-Ryan won the bunch sprint for the bronze medal on Sunday.

Bogota, Colombia (May 9, 2011) – After a week in Colombia, USA Cycling’s team is on its way back to the United States with ten medals from the 2011 UCI Pan American Road and Track Championships.

Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Cedar Springs, Mich./Colavita-Forno D’Asolo) rode her way to the final medal for the U.S. contingent on Sunday as road racing brought a close to the week-long event.

After Canadian Clara Hughes won the 96-kilometer women’s affair and Evelyn Garcia of El Salvador followed her in for the silver medal, Cliff Ryan won the bunch sprint for the podium’s final step.

Two days earlier, the time trials yielded three medals for American riders.

Evelyn Stevens (Dennis, Mass./HTC-Highroad) time trialed her way to a silver medal with a time of 26.27 while compatriot, Amber Neben (Lake Forest, Calif./Veloce Velo), posted a 26.42 for the bronze medal.

Jacob Rathe (Portland, Ore.) also earned a bronze medal for the U.S., posting the third fastest time in the U23 men’s time trial. With a time of 50.16, Rathe finished behind first- and second-place finishers Ramon Ill Carretero (Panama) and Daniel Jaramillo (Colombia).

The four medals earned during the road race portion of competition were added to the six collected by Americans on the velodrome. Click here to read more about the track racing action in Colombia.
