Stancil, Fields & Sharrah time trial onto podium at BMX World Cup in Argentina
Santiago del Estero, Argentina (September 6. 2014) – The 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup returned to action on Saturday with round five in Argentina after a nearly three-month hiatus.
It was a good day for Team USA as Felicia Stancil (Lake Villa, Ill./GT Bicycles), Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./ Chase/Monster), and Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./Haro Bicycles) time trialed onto the podium in the Time Trial Superfinals.
Fields, who won both the time trial and the supercross contest in Argentina last year, was the eleventh man out of the gate in the men's event and he sat in the hot seat until the final rider, Liam Phillips (GBR), beat his time with a 31.686.
Fields said that the track in Santiago del Estero is his favorite on the World Cup circuit. "I think it's the fact that it's challenging but you can still go all out, as fast as you can for the entire lap," he said from the hot seat right before Phillips took over his position.
With a time of 31.746, Fields secured the number-two spot just ahead of fellow American Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./Haro Bicycles) who placed third with a time of 31.894. Jared Garcia (Victorville, Calif./Supercross BMX) was sixth for the USA while Barry Nobles (Sun City, Calif.) was ninth.
In the women's event, Stancil earned the third step on the podium with a time of 35.272 while Mariana Pajon (COL) was the fastest in 34.394 and Caroline Buchanan (AUS) was second in 24.888. Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro Bicycles) was sixth for the United States, completing her race against the clock in a time of 35.807.
World Cup competition will continue on Sunday with the Supercross events. In the women's competition, Stancil and Crain will be joined by Alise Post (St. Cloud, Minn./Redline) and Dani George (Palmdale, Calif.). Fields, Sharrah, Garcia, and Nobles will line up for the men's rounds, along with Sean Gaian (Santee, Calif./GT Bicycles), David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Free Agent Bicycles), Nicholas Koehler (Tustin, Calif.), Nicholas Long (Lakeside, Calif.), Jacob Peebles (Chico, Calif.), and Justin Posey (Winston-Salem, N.C./Dan’s Comp).
