Six Americans in action on day two of 2014 Juniors Track Worlds

Gwangmyeong, Korea (August 9, 2014) —The second day of competition at the 2014 UCI Juniors Track World Championships took place Saturday at the Gwangmyeong Speedom in Korea with six young riders from Team USA testing themselves against the best in the world in the women's time trial, men's scratch race, men's individual pursuit and men's keirin.

James Mellen (Schnecksville, Pa./Sprinter's Edge Track Development Team) turned in the best performance of the day as he placed 12th in the men's keirin. Mellen won his repechage heat to advance to the second round, but finished fifth in that heat and did not move to the finals. Dominic Suozzi (San Pedro, Calif./Team Winded Development) placed second in his repechage heat and did not advance to the second round. He finished tied for 13th.

In the men's scratch race, Thorsten Askervold (Lake Stevens, Wash./HSP) finished 16th in the 29-rider field.

Danielle Mullis (Rochester, Mich./West Michigan Coast Riders) and Julia Sante (Queensbury, N.Y./Farm Team Cycling) contested the women's 500-meter time trial with Mullis placing 16th with a time of 38.059 and Sante close behind her in 18th place with a time of 38.209.

The men's individual pursuit saw Chazmichael Morales (El Segundo, Calif.) finish 35th.

Competition continues on Sunday with action in the women's sprint, men's 1k time trial, women's individual pursuit, men's points race and the first three events of the men's omnium. Visit the UCI Juniors Track World Championships website for a full schedule.
