Schneider notches silver for junior women

  
  


(Oct. 14, 2016) – Skylar Schneider (West Allis, Wis./ISCorp Cycling p/b SmartChoice MRI) sprinted to silver in the junior women’s road race Friday at the 2016 UCI Road World Championships in Doha, Qatar, giving Team USA its fourth medal at the competition and ninth junior World Championship medal in two years.

After nearly two hours spent at the front of the field, Schneider put the finishing touches on a strong afternoon with a sprint finish silver in 1:53:04, just behind winner Elisa Balsamo (ITA), who was credited with the same time. Susanne Andersen (NOR) took third in the 53-rider field sprint.
 
Summer Moak (Foothill Ranch, Calif./TWENTY16 Pro Cycling) finished with the front group, taking 47th in 1:53:04, followed by Megan Heath (Alpharetta, Ga./Frazier Cycling) in 1:53:16 for 54th and Hannah Arensman (Rutherford College, N.C./TWENTY16 Pro Cycling) in 2:03:06 for 61st.
 
In the junior men’s road race, time trial champion Brandon McNulty (Phoenix, Ariz./LUX-Stradling p/b Specialized) took 16th in 2:58:26 to cap an afternoon spent at the front. McNulty crossed with a group of 16 that trailed winner Jakob Egholm by seven seconds.
 
Gage Hecht (Parker, Colo./Hot Tubes Development Cycling Team) and Cameron Beard (Bend, Ore./Team Specialized Racing-NCCF) finished in 3:00:04 for 51st and 59th, respectively, while Ian Garrison (Decatur, Ga./Holowesko-Citadel Racing Team p/b Hincapie Racing) crossed in 3:06:04 for 111th. Tyler Stites (Tucson, Ariz./El Grupo Youth Cycling) also competed.

The elite women’s field takes center stage Saturday for the penultimate day of competition, as Allie Dragoo (Grand Rapids, Mich./TWENTY16 Ridebiker), 2015 bronze medalist Megan Guarnier (San Mateo, Calif./Boels Dolmans Cycling Team), 2016 time trial champion Amber Neben (Lake Forest, Calif./BEPINK), Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./UnitedHealthcare), Alexis Ryan (Ventura, Calif./Canyon SRAM Racing), Carmen Small (Durango, Colo./Cylance Pro Cycling) and Lauren Stephens (Dallas, Texas/Team TIBCO-Silicon Valley Bank) look to add to Team USA’s medal haul.
