Road Worlds open with time tests on the streets of Copenhagen

Addyson Albershardt (Matthew, N.C./Flying Pigs) posted the best result for the United States on day one with her 14th-place effort in the junior women’s contest. One minute off the winning pace, the American completed the 13.9-kilometer test with a time of 20:19.
“During the warm up, I felt good, which is usually an indication of how the race will be,” explained Albershardt. “But I went out too hard on the first half of the course so I really just focused on trying to maintain speed during the second half.”
Also riding to a strong finish for the red, white and blue was Grace Alexander (Boise, Idaho/BYRDS), who posted 17th-place with a time of 20:30.11.
“I felt like the race went really well,” Alexander commented. “It was a very technical course and you always had to pay attention.”
The junior women’s event was won by Australian Jessica Allen, who used her technical skills to slip into the rainbow jersey with a time of 19:18. She was joined on the podium by silver and bronze medalists Elinor Barker (GBR) and Mieke Kroger (GER).

"I was hoping for a better result today, but did not have the legs," Jones said afterwards. "The course was harder than I expected due to the headwind on the way back but offered a unique experience racing in downtown Copenhagen."
Lawson Craddock (Houston, Texas/Trek-Livestrong) was next up for the U.S. in 50th place with a time of 47:18.32.
“Today was extremely tough for me,” Craddock told USA Cycling after his time trial. “The course should have suited me well, but sometimes things just don't click.”
“It's easy to be disappointed,” he went on. “But the support group that has been around me has been incredible and has helped me keep my chin up. Overall, I'm extremely glad to have had this opportunity. It was a huge learning experience for me, and will help me heaps for the future. A huge thanks goes out to everyone at USA Cycling for all they have done for everyone here in Copenhagen.”
Like with the junior women, the U23 men’s contest was won by an Aussie. Luke Durbridge posted the winning time of 42:47 to claim the gold medal ahead of second- and third-place finishers Rasmus Christian Quaade (DEN) and Michael Hepburn (AUS).
Action will continue in Denmark on Tuesday with the junior men’s and elite women’s time trials.
