The first of four races in the 2012 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series, the event at the U.S. Olympic Training Center just south of San Diego, Calif. is the third world cup event to count into the 2011-12 UCI BMX ranking season. Future stops on the 2012 UCI Supercross World Cup circuit include Randaberg, Norway, April 13-14; Papendal, Netherlands, May 12-13 and Abbotsford, Canada, Sept. 14-15.
The Chula Vista Supercross event is open to all elite and junior-level riders holding an USA Cycling BMX international license and riders must be born from 1995 or earlier to be eligible to enter the race.
The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series offers significant international class 2 ranking points that affect an athlete’s individual international (UCI) ranking, and contribute to a nation’s ranking, which is the primary factor in determining the number of start positions a country receives at the 2012 Olympic Games. The Chula Vista contest is also the third of seven races to be factored into the 2011-12 USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings which helps determine the athletes who will represent Team USA at the upcoming Olympic Games, per the team selection procedures.
