Pro XCT: Gagne, Batty retain U.S. Cup leads at Sea Otter Classic

  
  


(April 29, 2015) – Raphael Gagne (CAN/Rocky Mountain) and Emily Batty (CAN/Trek Factory Racing Team) used respective fifth-place finishes at the April 18 Subaru Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, Calif., to maintain leads in the men’s and women’s U.S. Cup presented by Cannondale standings, while Catherine Pendrel (CAN/LUNA Pro Team) chalked the win to claim the Pro MTB Cross-Country Tour (Pro XCT) women’s standings lead.

Gagne’s lead grew after picking up the fifth-place finish in 1:01:25, increasing his first-place point total to 125. Sergio Mantecon-Gutierrez (ESP/Trek Factory Racing) stands second in the rankings with 91 points following his 18th-place 1:04:12 run, while Adam Morka (Tucson, Ariz./Trek Canada) climbed from fifth to third with 81 points thanks to a 1:01:41 ninth-place effort. Nino Schurter (CHE/Scott-Odlo) trails closely in fourth with 80 points following his Subaru Sea Otter Classic win in 59:56, and Anton Cooper (NZL/Cannondale Factory Racing) rounds out the top five with 75 points.
 
Batty’s fifth-place 2:23:27 was enough to hold onto the standings lead, increasing her point total to 135, followed by event winner Pendrel, who has 125 points following her 2:21:28 win. Georgia Gould (Fort Collins, Colo./LUNA Pro Team) stands third with 110 points after a 2:24:13 sixth-place result, and Katerina Nash (CZE/Luna Pro Team) increased her point total to a fourth-place 107 thanks to a ninth-place result at the Sea Otter Classic. Erin Huck (Boulder, Colo./Scott 3 ROX) and Chloe Woodruff (Prescott, Ariz./Team Stan’s NOTUBES-NINER) stand locked in a fifth-place tie with 96 points after top-10 finishes at the event.
 
Pro XCT
 
Gagne also stands first in the men’s Pro XCT standings with 225 points, followed by Schurter with 160 points, Cooper with 120 points and Mantecon-Gutierrez with 93 points. Max Plaxton (CAN/SHO-AIR-Cannondale), who finished 53rd at the event, stands fifth with 79 points.
 
Pendrel’s win propelled her into the top women’s spot with 230 points, followed by Batty with 225 points, Gould with 145 points, Nash with 128 points and Woodruff with 95 points.
