NRC: Mancebo and Powers top final standings

The 2013 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC) crossed the finish line on Saturday with the Thompson Bucks County Classic in Doylestown, Pa. While Francisco Mancebo (ESP/5-Hour Energy p/b Kenda) had already secured the top spot, the remaining positions in the top five remained in doubt, leaving the riders with plenty of competition.

Kiel Rejnen (Boulder, Colo./UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling) won the race, adding 200 points to his total, allowing him to move into fourth place in the NRC men's standings with 452 points. Joseph Rosskopf (Athens, Ga./Hincapie Sportswear Development Team) finished 12th in the race to add 28 points to his total, which allowed him to overtake Chad Haga (Colorado Springs, Colo./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) and move two points ahead of Haga into second place of the standings with 556 points. Mancebo finished the season with 814 points, 258 points ahead of Rosskopf. Haga slipped into third place with 554. Reijnen ended the season with 452 points, 24 points ahead of Serghei Tvetcov (MOLDOVA/Jelly Belly Cycling), who completed the calendar in fifth place.

As was announced in early August when the women's calendar completed, Alison Powers (Pinecliffe, Colo./NOW and Novartis for MS) topped the NRC women's standings with 1,108 points, 54 points ahead of the runner-up, Claudia Haeusler (GER/Team TIBCO-To the Top), who totaled 1,054 points. Shelley Olds (Gilroy, Calif./Team TIBCO-To the Top) amassed 1,018 points to finish third. Joelle Numainville (CAN/Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) placed fourth in the standings with 848 points while Mara Abbott (Boulder, Colo./Exergy TWENTY16) rounds out the top five with 624 points.

The race in Doylestown shook the NRC men's team standings up a bit, too. Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies topped the final tally with 1,738 points. Jamis Hagens Berman traded standings places with 5-Hour Energy p/b Kenda. Jamis Hagens Berman moved up one spot into second place with 1,186 points while 5-Hour Energy p/b Kenda slipped down one spot into third place with 1,160 points. Hincapie Sportswear Development Team completed the calendar in fourth place with 1,134 points while UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling moved into fifth place with 958 points.

The NRC women's team standings were also decided in early August following the Alexian Brothers Tour of Elk Grove (http://www.tourofelkgrove.com/). Team TIBCO-To the Top recorded 2,922 points to claim first place, 1,002 points ahead of Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies. NOW and Novartis for MS finished in third place with 1,806 points while Exergy TWENTY16 placed fourth with 1,262 points. Specialized-lululemon ended the season in fifth place with 738 points.
