NRC: Liberty Classic tightens women's standings

  
  


The Liberty Classic in Philadelphia represented the sixth stop on the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar (NRC). The women-only contest on Sunday featured over 150 of the world's best female riders and after 57.6 miles of racing, resulted in a 26-rider sprint finish.

The NRC women's standings are unchanged after the Liberty Classic. Alison Powers (Pinecliffe, Colo./NOW and Novartis for MS) remains the leader although Amber Neben (Lake Forest, Calif./Specialized-lululemon), after placing 24th, trimmed five points off her deficit and now trails by 58 points. Carmen Small (Durango, Colo./Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) placed 19th on Sunday and is only eight points behind Neben and 59 points ahead of fourth-place Jade Wilcoxson (Talent, Ore./Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies). Rounding out the top five is Evelyn Stevens (Dennis, Mass./Specialized-lululemon) with 385 points, six points behind Wilcoxson.

The NRC women's team standings are also unchanged after the race in Philadelphia. Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies, which saw three of its riders finish in the top 20, holds a 569-point advantage on Team TIBCO-To the Top. Exergy Twenty12 sits in third place, 51 points behind Team TIBCO-To the Top and 98 points ahead of fourth-place NOW and Novartis for MS. FCS-Rouse p/b Mr. Restore remains in fifth place, 386 points behind NOW and Novartis for MS with four women's events remaining on the NRC.

MEN

The NRC men's standings are unchanged as there was not an event on the calendar for men. The men return to action for the Nature Valley Grand Prix from June 13-17 in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.

Francisco Mancebo (ESP/Competitive Cyclist Racing Team) leads the NRC men's standings while Competitive Cyclist Racing Team tops the NRC men's team standings.
