Certified Skills Instructor Clinic

Our Mission - Enhance coaches abilities through excellence in education, opportunities, tools, and technology

USA Cycling is conducting Certified Skills Instructor (CSI) coaching clinics to provide cyclists with an enjoyable and educational experience as they learn to race their bikes. The CSI clinics teach coaches necessary race skills for all athletes to begin, advance, and excel in bike racing. These skills will closely follow USA Cycling's Beginning Racer Program (BRP) curriculum.

Coaches attending the clinic are taught how to teach race skills according to the BRP curriculum, which is broken down into five individual lessons:

1. Basic Pack Skills - Protecting Your Front Wheel
2. Cornering – Choosing and Holding Your Line
3. Pack Awareness & Skills
4. Sprinting Basics
5. Bringing it All Together

Each lesson is comprised of three components: 1) on-bike instructional clinic; 2) mentored race; and 3) race debrief.

Registration

To register, log into your USA Cycling account and click on the "My Account" button. From there click on "account" (below the Welcome Header). From there click on "View Available Clinics/Webinars". Scroll to the bottom of the page to locate the available clinics.

All coaches attending the CSI Clinic will also receive a BRP manual with directions for setting up and running a BRP.

Coaches are responsible for their accommodation and transportation.

CEUs

All coaches will receive 15 CEUs for attending the Certified Skills Instructor Clinics. Cost of the clinic is $399.

The BRP is modeled off of the highly successful Northern California Early Bird Racing Series. Established approximately 30 years ago, the Early Bird Racing Series serves over 1,000 racers annually and is the culmination of many years of hard work from USA Cycling Coaches Larry Nolan, Laurel Green, Matt McNamara, John Cheetham, and Dan Smith.
