Twelve U.S. riders set for round 3 of Track World Cup in Beijing

Print Twelve Americans are set to compete at round three of the UCI Track World Cup, Jan. 13-15, at Beijing’s Laoshan Velodrome.
The U.S. contested the first World Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan in November, won two medals at the second event in Cali, Colombia last month, and now prepares to send a relatively young squad to compete in nine events during stop three on the 2008 Olympic Velodrome.
The foursome of Zack Noonan (Kutztown, Pa./FCS-Metro Volkswagon), Matthew Lipscomb (Decatur, Ga./Fulton Flyers), Ian Moir (Long Beach, Calif./Yahoo Cycling Team), and Adam Leibovitz (Indianapolis, Ind.) will contest the men’s team pursuit and several other individual events. Combining forces in the men’s team sprint, as well as other sprint events, will be Kevin Mansker (Long Beach, Calif./Project London 2012), Dean Tracy (Portland, Ore./Rubicon Cycling), and Jimmy Watkins (Bakersfield, Calif./Project London 2012). Rounding out men’s competition for the U.S. will be Giddeon Massie (Cypress, Calif./Bike Religion) in the keirin and Bobby Lea (Mertztown, Pa./Pure Energy Cycling-ProAirHFA) in the Omnium.
On the women’s side of competition, Liz Carlson (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Black Dog Pro Cycling Team) and Tela Crane (Sammamish, Wash./Lake Washington Velo/Broadmark Capital) will team up for the team sprint. Carlson will also ride the 500-meter time trial while Crane will contest the keirin. Additionally, Jennifer Valente (San Diego, Calif./Exergy TWENTY 12) will compete in the sprint and the keirin.
Following the competition in Beijing, the fourth and final round of the World Cup will take place in London on the 2012 Olympic Velodrome, Feb. 17-19.
