Lakatosh & Massie repeat as Tandem Track Sprint national champs
Another USA Cycling national championship was awarded on Friday at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center near Trexlertown, Pennsylvania. T-town favorites Andy Lakatosh (Trexlertown, Penn./Chester County Cycling Foundation) and 2008 Olympian Giddeon Massie (Cypress, Calif./Cody Racing) teamed up to defend their Tandem Track Sprint national titles.
In another repeat performance, Kurt Begemann (Reading, Mass.) and Jeffrey Palter (Lexington, Mass.) defended the silver medal won in this event a year ago. Ray Ignosh (Zionsville, Pa.) again found a way to grab the bronze, this time with 51 year-old William Elliston (Easton, Pa.).
Steven Schneider(Allentown, Pa./Kapelmuur Independent) and Nicholas Roeder (Orefield, Pa./Tri State Velo) pushed youngsters Nik Reinert (Mertztown, Penn./Van Dessel Factory Team) and Jamie Alvord (King of Prussia, Pa./QCW Cycling) down into fifth place this year.
The USA Cycling Tandem Track Sprint National Championships is the second national championship event hosted by the Valley Preferred Cycling Center hosted just this season. The venue also hosted the Masters Track Nationals event just days ago.
One of the most-exciting events at T-town each year, the USA Cycling Tandem Track Sprint National Championships was held in conjunction with Tandemonium! This 12-lap scratch race pitting all the tandems on the track is definitely a sight to see. It's often simply regarded as "twice the speed, twice the power, twice the action and twice the thrill."
