Gwin wins Downhill World Cup #3, moves into overall lead

Aaron Gwin (Temecula, Calif./Trek World Racing) won the men’s downhill contest at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Leogang, Austria on Sunday. After winning the opening round and placing fifth in round two, Gwin moved into the overall world cup standings lead with the win.
Gwin descended his way to the win with a time of 3:44.181 in the men’s downhill contest, besting Brit Gee Atherton (COMMENCAL), who sits second in the overall standings, by just over two seconds. Gwin has now been on the podium at all three world cups this season. South African Greg Minaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate), who won round two, took the bronze just under six seconds slower than Gwin.
With three of seven downhill world cup events complete, Gwin leads the standings with 628 points over Minnaar (582) and Atherton (527).
The only American woman contesting the event, Jill Kintner (Seattle, Wash.) finished in 18th after qualifying fourth.
The next Mountain Bike World Cup is set for Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, July 1-3.
