Two Americans make the podium at gravity MTB World Cup in Scotland

Aaron Gwin was one of two Americans to make the podium in Fort William. Meliissa Buhl also grabbed a podium spot.
Aaron Gwin (Temecula, Calif./Trek World Racing) descended his way into fifth place with a time of 4:46.858 in the men’s downhill contest. Gwin has now been on the podium two out of two times this World Cup season as he won the opening round of the downhill series in South Africa at the end of April. The fifth-place effort in Scotland moved Gwin from first to second in the overall World Cup downhill rankings.
The men’s time test was won by South African Greg Minaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) who posted a time of 4:43.854. Danny Hart (GBR/Giant) and Brook MacDonald (MS Evil Racing) were second and third while Gee Atherton (GBR/Comencal) was fourth.
Melissa Buhl (Chandler, Ariz.) also grabbed a spot on the podium with her fifth-place effort in the women’s four-cross competition. In the semi-final round, she had a streak of bad luck with a slide that caused her to put her foot down and lose speed. However, in the small final for fifth place, she dominated the competition to secure the podium’s final step. The gold medal winner was Anneke Beerten (NED/Milka Trek MTB Racing Team).
Barely missing out on a third podium appearance for the U.S. was 2008 Olympian Jill Kintner (Seattle, Wash./Red Bull-Transition Racing) who posted the sixth-place time in the women’s downhill contest, 15 seconds off the winning pace set by Tracy Moseley (GBR/Trek World Racing).
