Special Events to Attend at Collegiate Road Nationals

  
  


There are plenty of special events to fill up all of your free time at the 2011 USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals, including a free Mechanic's Clinic, open Collegiate Board of Trustees meetings on Women in Collegiate Cycling and Rule Changes, a screening of Ride the Divide, and of course the traditional Saturday night Awards Banquet.

Ride the Divide Film Screening
Thursday; 8pm at the Orpheum Theatre, 216 State St.
Watch an award-winning feature film about the world's toughest mountain bike race, which traverses over 2700 miles along the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains. The film weaves the story of three characters' experiences with immense mountain beauty and small-town culture as they attempt to pedal from Banff, Canada, to a small, dusty crossing on the Mexican border. Meet and Greet the Collegiate Board of Trustees
Thursday; 2pm-6pm
While you are at registration and packet pick-up, stop by and say hello to your Collegiate Board of Trustees.  They will be present to hear any and all of your questions, comments, and concerns, and would love to meet you.  Whether its an idea on how to improve the recruitment of new riders, a question about the rules, or just to see who is on the board, stop by their table.


Open Collegiate Board Meeting on Collegiate Rules
Friday; 7pm-8:30pm
The Collegiate Board will be holding an open meeting on proposed rule changes for 2012.  Rule change proposals are due to your conference directors by April 15th, and will be discusses with riders and coaches at this meeting.  This is your best opportunity to participate directly in the rules change process.  One major topic of discussion will be the standardization of points structures across conferences. Rules will be published here by Saturday, April 30th. The rules will not be voted on at this time, but the board seeks as much rider input as possible on all rule changes.


Open Collegiate Board Meeting on Women in Collegiate Cycling
Saturday; 2:00pm-3:30pm
The Collegiate Board will be devoting this meeting to all things women in collegiate cycling, from recruiting and retention to training and racing.  What works and what doesn’t?  This will be a semi-structured meeting, with a few short keynote presentations given at the beginning, followed by an open discussion.  Come and share your experiences, ideas, and questions.  Men and women welcome.


USA Cycling Mechanics’ Clinic for Collegiate Teams
Saturday; 4pm-5:30pm
Learn the ins and outs of what it takes to be a race mechanic, and how you can serve your collegiate team in that capacity.  Topics will include how to support a team on a limited budget, the fundamentals of race technical support on the road, tool and supply needs, and rules for the mechanics to adhere to.  This clinic is free to all collegiate racers and their support staff.  Please RSVP to Jeffrey Hansen at jhansen@usacycling.org. 


Awards Banquet
Saturday; 6pm-9pm at UW-Madison Memorial Union
Following the conclusion of the Men’s Division I Team Time Trial on Saturday afternoon, a luxurious banquet dinner will be held the same evening at the beautiful University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union, right on Lake Mendota, to celebrate the 2011 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships and the winners determined so far. The banquet will feature trivia from Trek Bicycles and a few words from Micah Rice (USA Cycling Managing Director of National Events), Jeffrey Hansen (USA Cycling Collegiate Program Manager), and Emma Bast (Collegiate Board of Trustees Chairperson).

The awards to be presented at the Saturday night banquet will be the Road Race and Team Time Trial National Championship titles. For those who would prefer not to eat at the banquet which begins at 6:00pm, but wish to attend the awards ceremony, there will be standing room available after dinner is served. Attending only the awards ceremony is free of cost. The presentation will begin at 8:00pm.

Awards to be presented on Sunday will be the Criterium, Individual Omnium, and Team Omnium National Championship titles. The ceremony will take place at the popular Great Dane Pub and Brewing Company in downtown Madison, and will begin at 2:00pm. Tickets will be available at onsite registion and online through your USA Cycling account.
