Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 26, 2011) --USA Cycling is pleased to announce a roster of seven athletes it will send to round two of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Papendal, Netherlands on May 28. This World Cup is the fifth World Cup event to count into the 2010-2011 UCI BMX rankings and it also allows riders to accumulate points toward a country’s start spots at the 2012 Olympic Games.

An automatic qualifier to the team, Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz./GT Bicycles) will lead the men’s contingent as the number-one ranked rider in the UCI’s Supercross World Cup standings. Sharrah is not only fresh off of his win at the USA Cycling BMX National Championships, but the 19-year-old rider also took the win at round one of the Supercross World Cup in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa earlier this month. Sharrah will be joined by two other automatic qualifiers: David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Intense BMX) and Josh Meyers (Treasure Island, Fla./Ss quared-Answer), who earned their spots on the team as the eighth- and 12th-ranked riders in the UCI’s Supercross World Cup standings. Rounding out the men’s team will be discretionary pick, Nic Long (Lakeside, Calif./Haro-Rockstar).

Three talented ladies will make up the women’s team as Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Haro-Rockstar) and Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn./Redline Bicycles) both earned automatic nominations to the team by virtue of their 12th- and 13th-place rankings in the UCI’S Supercross World Cup standings. Arielle Martin (Spanaway, Wash./Intense BMX) will also represent USA Cycling as a discretionary selection in Papendal.

The Papendal Supercross World Cup is open to all elite and junior-level championship class riders, born before 1994, that hold a USA Cycling BMX international license. Eligible riders can register for the event now by logging on to their My USA Cycling account.  Registration costs $165 and is open until 5 p.m. MST on May 11, 2011.
