Thirty-two national titles awarded as Masters Track Nats wrap up
Competition wrapped up at the 2010 Richardson Bike Mart USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships on Sunday as the final 32 Stars-and-Stripes were awarded in the time trial and team events. Overall 81 national titles have been awarded over the past five days of competition at the Superdrome in Frisco, Texas. Frisco, Texas (Sept. 5, 2010) —
Nineteen riders earned the right to call themselves the fastest in the country in their age division of the 500-meter and one kilometer time trial. One of the action-packed day’s most exciting TT stories was that of Rita Kacala (Racine, WI/ RPM/Hayes Brake). Kacala posted an unofficial world record breaking time of 39.856 in the 55-59 women’s event which would have put her right up there with the 30-34 and 35-39 women’s winners and ahead of many of the men in her age group. Richard Voss (Littleton, CO/Hammer Racing Team) posted the top overall 500-meter time of the day with a 35.933 in the 50-54 men’s division. Thirty-four-year-old Joshua Ryan (Chicago, IL/ Bouledogue Tout Noir) recorded a 1:09.185 for the top one-kilometer time of the day. View all of Sunday’s Time Trial champions here.
National titles were also awarded in the team pursuit, team sprint and Madison events. Five titles were awarded in the team pursuit with the 40-49 foursome of Chris Carlson (Plano, TX), Curtis Tolson (Louisville, KY), Steven Carrell (Norcross, GA) and Tony Scott (East Point, GA) posting the day’s best time of 4:39.634 as team ILIKETAHADAGOTDAT. The three-woman Goodwill squad won the women’s division with a 4:02.686. Six team sprint titles and a pair of Madison Stars-and-Stripes were also awarded on the final day of competition.
In all 81 national championship jerseys were decided over the five days of competition at the Richardson Bike Mart USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships.
