Nation's top mountain bikers to ride for national titles this week

Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 8, 2010) – Mountain bikers across the nation are gearing up for the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships which return to the Sol Vista Bike Park at Granby Ranch in Colorado next week.

The event, slated for July 15-18, will see over 1,000 off-road racers duke it out on Sol Vista’s world-class terrain for 70 Stars-and-Stripes jerseys in cross country, short track cross country, downhill, super D and four-cross competitions. Opportunities to win national titles will be available to riders of all ages, from juniors and amateurs to some of the world’s top pros. For a complete list of categories, click here.

Husband and wife duo, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (Boulder, Colo./Subaru-Trek) and Heather Irmiger (Boulder, Colo./Subaru-Trek), will lead the men’s and women’s pro races as they look to defend their cross country titles from a year ago. Fresh off the successful defense of their Marathon Mountain Bike national titles in Breckenridge last weekend, the mountain biking super couple is looking strong heading into the Sol Vista show-down.

Other endurance specialists to be on the lookout for over the weekend include Adam Craig (Bend, Ore./Giant), Todd Wells (Durango, Colo.), Ryan Trebon (Bend, Ore./Kona), and Sam Schultz (Missoula, Mont./Subaru-Trek) who recently scored his first national-level win at the penultimate round of the USA Cycling Pro XCT. In the women’s contest, Irmiger can expect some tough competition from riders like Georgia Gould Willow Koerber (Asheville, N.C./Subaru-Trek), and Mary McConneloug (Chilmark, Mass./Kenda/Seven/No Tubes).
